What Car did the Detroit Lions use for the Sports Illustrated Photo Shoot?

 

Whether you're on Instagram, Facebook , or any other social media platform, if you live in Michigan or are a fan of football, you likely saw this image seemingly countless times. 

 

 

Upon first glance, my eyes were immediately drawn to the car in the center of the image. While I did have my initial guesses at what the car was, I was determined to figure out what car the Lions used in their Sports Illustrated photo shoot. More importantly, I wanted to understand why they chose that car.

 

The Detroit Lions used a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner for their feature article in Sports Illustrated. The choice of this car was quite thoughtful. Since the Lions play at Ford Field in Detroit and are owned by the Ford family, picking a Ford car made perfect sense. Plus, picking a model from 1957 was symbolic because that was the last year the Lions won a championship.

 

 

Ryan Talaga owns the 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner used in the photo shoot. He shared in a Sports Illustrated video that he bought the car because he wanted to start collecting classic cars like his dad. He found this one on Facebook Marketplace and fell in love with its Powder Blue interior, even though it originally had a black and white interior. The blue interior was a great fit for his love of the Lions.

 

The 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner itself is notable for its design and technology. It was one of the first cars with a retractable hardtop, meaning the metal roof could fold down into the trunk at the push of a button, transforming it from a sleek coupe into a stylish convertible. This innovation was a big deal in the 1950s and made the Skyliner one of the most fascinating models of its time. Its sleek lines and chrome details captured the optimism of the era, making it a symbol of American innovation and style.

Monterey Car Week 2024 has once again set the bar high, unveiling an array of vehicles that push the limits of luxury, performance, and technological innovation. This year’s lineup included everything from ultra-modern family wagons to supercars that blend heritage with futuristic features. In this post, we'll recap some of the most talked-about releases from the event, highlighting key features and what makes each model a standout in today's rapidly evolving car market.

 

BMW M5 Touring: A Perfect Blend of Power and Practicality

The BMW M5 Touring emerges as a pinnacle of performance wagons, carrying the mechanical heart of the M5 Sedan but with added practicality. Boasting a robust M Hybrid drive system, it delivers a staggering 717 horsepower, courtesy of a 577 hp twin-turbo V-8 combined with an electric motor. This setup achieves a brisk 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds, complemented by a 25-mile electric range. 

Despite its hefty 5,530-pound frame, the M5 Touring offers nimble handling, contradicting its massive presence with surprising agility and refinement. Inside, it's as spacious as it is luxurious, with a cargo capacity rivaling SUVs, perfect for family getaways with ample space for luggage. Aesthetically, the M5 Touring looks awesome in its launch color of Isle of Man Green. Priced at $121,500, the M5 Touring is set to roll out globally in late 2024.

 

2025 Lincoln Navigator: Majestic Refinement and Tech-Savvy Elegance

Lincoln revitalizes its flagship Navigator for 2025, enhancing its presence with a dramatic split grille and an innovative two-piece tailgate. This model adopts design cues from the latest Nautilus but elevates them to a grander scale, particularly with its expansive and tech-laden cabin. A standout feature is the colossal four-foot-wide digital display, enhancing connectivity and control.

Mechanically, the Navigator retains its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, delivering 440 horsepower, paired with advanced adaptive dampers and new driver-assist technologies. The luxurious interior offers up to 30-way adjustable seats and a novel third-row configuration that prioritizes comfort across all seats. Starting just under $100,000, the Navigator remains a beacon of luxury and innovation in its class.

 

Lamborghini Temerario: A New Era of Supercar

The Lamborghini Temerario sets a new standard for the brand, integrating a V8 twin-turbo engine with three electric motors to produce an astonishing 920 horsepower. With a heart-stopping 2,107 horsepower engine, it achieves new heights in performance, clocking 0-186 mph in a mere 8.66 seconds. Designed for the track, the Nevera R boasts significant enhancements in downforce and suspension, delivering a more dynamic and responsive driving experience.

This model isn't just about speed; it's a symphony of advanced technology and cutting-edge design. With only 40 units going into production, the Nevera R is as exclusive as it is impressive, featuring a bespoke interior that promises a unique connection with every driver. Pricing remains unannounced, but the Nevera R will surely stand as a rare jewel in the hypercar world.

 

This year's Monterey Car Week was nothing short of spectacular, with each car maker pulling out all the stops to impress. The BMW M5 Touring redefined what a family car can be, while the Lincoln Navigator elevated luxury to new heights. Lamborghini's Temerario broke the mold with its hybrid power and distinctive design, and the Rimac Nevera R set new standards for hypercar performance. Since there is a large variety of classic cars available at any given time, classic cars are available at nearly every price point. To begin this series of blog posts, we’re going to take a look at the best classic cars under $10k. 

 

Mercedes-Benz SL R107

Produced from 1971-1989, the R107 generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL is a widely available classic. Over 250,000 of these two-seater convertibles were built. These European roadsters make for an awesome open air driving experience while also providing a comfortable ride. Though not every model of the SL will be available at this price point and you may have to keep an eye out for a higher mileage example, there are still going to be plenty of quality examples that fit within any budget. When looking for a classic car for under $10,000, definitely keep these "Benzes" in mind. 

 

 

C4 Corvette

If you’re looking for something American with a bit more power, look no further than the fourth generation of the Chevrolet Corvette. These American sports cars pack a punch with a 5.7L V8 under the hood, your choice in transmission, and rear wheel drive. In addition to the impressive performance credentials at a value price, the early models had unique digital gauge clusters that bring drivers back to a different time. As with the previously mentioned Mercedes-Benz, various options, trim levels, and colors will affect the price with some examples fetching well above $50,000. Produced from 1983 to 1996, the fourth generation Corvette is a great option when looking for a classic car under $10,000.

 

 

MG MGB

Want a well-handling, peppy, British roadster with three pedals? If so, check out the MG MGB. Powered by a 1.8L inline four, power is routed to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Depending on the model year purchased, different carburetors, transmissions, and bumpers were used. When looking for one of these awesome British roadsters, be sure to know what year has your desired components. Being able to drop the top and carve some backroads while rowing your own gears is a truly enjoyable experience when behind the wheel of an MGB.

The King of the Hill Returns

 

The 2025 C8 Corvette ZR1 is a game-changer in the world of high-performance sports cars. Building on the legacy of its predecessors, the new ZR1's 1,064-horsepower output is a testament to the relentless pursuit of power by Chevy's engineers. Executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter puts it simply: "We want the most power technology will give us."

At the heart of this beast is the LT7 engine, which combines displacement, high revs, and turbo boost in a way that’s rarely seen. Its flat-plane crankshaft allows for higher revs and more power, breaking traditional limits on displacement. The result? A V-8 engine that sounds deeper and prouder than anything before, hitting 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm and peaking at a jaw-dropping 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm.

One of the standout features of the LT7 engine is its use of two turbos instead of a supercharger, keeping inertia low and preserving its high-rpm character. The advanced tech doesn’t stop there, the turbine wheels, made from a heat-resistant alloy, handle extreme temperatures and push exhaust with impressive force. It’s not just a boosted version of the Z06’s LT6 engine; the LT7 has unique internals, cams, and heads, along with additional cooling and fuel systems.

Driving the ZR1 is going to be an experience like no other. Chevy promises plenty of low-end power, with the engine delivering over 800 lb-ft of torque from 3,000 to 6,500 rpm. The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission has been beefed up to handle this power, and the modified Michelin tires are designed to cope with extreme forces. Chevy has even sacrificed some storage space in the front of the vehicle for better engine cooling, with clever airflow solutions that keep everything running optimally.

It’s a fitting capstone to Tadge Juechter’s legendary career, representing a high-water mark for internal combustion performance. While pricing details will come closer to its mid-2025 production date, it’s expected to be competitive, offering a significant performance bang for the buck compared to its more expensive rivals. The 2025 C8 Corvette ZR1 isn’t just a car, it’s a statement that Chevy is still the king of the hill in the performance car world.

Is Facebook Marketplace a Good Place to Sell My Car?

Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are often the first things that come to mind when looking to sell your car. While these free, or nearly free, sites are a great place to sell a regular vehicle such as a ten year old ¼-ton truck or a fifteen year old Honda Accord, they aren’t the best place to sell your antique, classic, or exotic vehicle. Local listing sites are just that, local. These sites often do not have the reach necessary to bring qualified buyers to your doorstep to purchase your vehicle. Even if these sites do bring a buyer to your door, it likely requires answering many questions via a messaging app and now you have a random person coming to your house. There are many better ways to sell your specialty vehicle than using local listing sites.

 

 

Should I Consign My Car to an Auction? 

There is no doubt that the major auction houses bring large crowds and often do millions of dollars of sales within a weekend. The challenge with these auctions is that you must transport your car to the auction for your vehicle to have “30 seconds of fame.” If the right buyer isn’t there in person, online, or watching on the TV your vehicle may not sell. Online auctions offer a different value proposition. You must keep your vehicle at your house but must source photos, answer all questions, and then coordinate shipment following the sale. While auctions definitely do have a place in the specialty vehicle market, for the average seller, there are additional options. 

 

 

Should I Use a Consignment Car Dealership?

When you’re looking for expert representation of your specialty vehicle, it’s time to consider a consignment car dealership. Consignment dealers will list each vehicle in their inventory on 20+ websites ensuring that their inventory reaches a global audience. Additionally, each listing will include 100+ quality photos as well as a couple of videos to accurately represent the vehicle. If you’re looking to consign your vehicle with a consignment dealer and they do not offer 100+ photos or videos as part of their standard consignment package, it may be time to consider switching to a different dealer. Another benefit of using a consignment dealer is the fact you do not have to sell your vehicle. Rather than having people messaging and calling you at random hours of the day or asking you to leave work early to take a look at your vehicle, a professional salesperson will represent your vehicle making the experience hassle-free for you. Next comes time for the dealer to arrange shipment of the vehicle to their dealership so that all you have to do is have the car ready to go! The only other things that must be done by the seller are complete the paperwork online and make sure the title is mailed to the dealer. After that, just wait for the vehicle to sell and the check to arrive in the mail!

Michigan Car Museums

Despite growing up in West Michigan and being a car person since I could remember—my third birthday party was race car themed—I was surprisingly unaware of some of the fantastic museums Michigan has to offer. All of the museums highlighted in this article have some truly special vehicles in their collections and diligently work to preserve their automobiles for the enjoyment of future generations.

 

Gilmore Car Museum

Named one of the top three car museums in the country by many notable publications, the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI, is truly a special place for automotive enthusiasts. Situated on 90 acres of beautifully landscaped land, the museum consists of many buildings connected by nearly three miles of paved road on the property.

While the Gilmore Car Museum has an impressive collection of its own, there are an additional eight collections on the property, making for a total of over 400 vehicles actively on display. Notable museums include the Classic Car Club of America Museum, the Model A Ford Museum, the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum, and the Cadillac-LaSalle Club Museum. The Lincoln, Model A, and Cadillac museums are all housed in recreated auto dealerships spanning from 1928 to 1948. In addition to the dealerships, Gilmore’s collection is housed in a recreated factory building from the turn of the century and is accompanied by an authentic operating diner from 1941 and a 1930s recreated Shell gas station. Needless to say, the environment at the Gilmore Car Museum is unlike any other.

A notable exhibit currently on display at the Gilmore Car Museum is “Born to Perform: The Era of the Muscle Car.” This permanent exhibit boasts 23 vehicles, including a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T HEMI, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Prototype, and an amazing 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Super Camaro. Other highlights include a Vector W8 Twin-Turbo, a plethora of modern supercars, a display of Corvettes, and so much more!

In addition to the static displays, the Gilmore Car Museum hosts some fantastic events. Every Wednesday, the museum hosts a cruise-in, and nearly every weekend there is a themed car show with typical attendance of 500+ vehicles! You can also learn to drive a Model T with their Model T Driving Experience class. With a little bit of something for every type of automotive enthusiast, be sure to check out the Gilmore Car Museum if you’re ever in West Michigan.

 

 

R.E. Olds Transportation Museum

Opening its doors in 1977, the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum (REOTM) is dedicated to Ransom Eli Olds, a Michigan inventor and entrepreneur who notably started the Oldsmobile and REO car companies. Situated in downtown Lansing, MI, on the Grand River, this museum primarily houses a collection of REO and Oldsmobile vehicles, recounting the history of the two automakers through pristine examples.

Notable vehicles in their collection include a 1903 Oldsmobile Curved Dash donated to MSU by R.E. Olds himself, a 1931 REO Royale, a 1950 Olds Assembly Plant Fire Truck, a 1953 Oldsmobile NASCAR race car, a 1970 Oldsmobile F85 W-31, and one of the final 500 Oldsmobiles ever produced, a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero Final 500 Edition.

 

 

The Henry Ford

The Henry Ford is a huge museum that houses everything from an exhibit on pottery from the 20th century to another exhibit with over 100 timepieces from four different centuries and the renowned Greenfield Village. While interesting in their own right, those exhibits aren’t why The Henry Ford is included on this list.

As one would expect, The Henry Ford Museum features an astonishing collection of vehicles—and it’s not just cars. At The Henry Ford, you can examine the 1925 Fokker F.VII Tri-Motor Airplane named the “Josephine Ford” that was flown over the North Pole by Richard Byrd. Also featured is the 1928 Ford 4-AT-B Tri-Motor Airplane the “Floyd Bennett,” which was also flown by Byrd but this time over the South Pole. On site, numerous locomotives are on display, as are unique motorcycles.

While the other vehicles are awesome in their own right, it’s the cars that we care the most about, and The Henry Ford houses some of the most desirable and historically significant cars. Notable cars include President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 Presidential Limousine, the Le Mans-winning 1967 Ford Mark IV race car, a 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Royale Convertible, and a 1965 Ford Mustang hosting the first serial number. While this list alone is impressive, there are many other vehicles that make this museum worth the trip to Dearborn, MI.

 

 

Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum

Last but certainly not least on this list is the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum in Ypsilanti, MI. While this museum may not have the nationwide reputation of the Gilmore Car Museum or The Henry Ford, this little museum nestled in downtown Ypsilanti has an awesome history and even better cars. The building was initially built in 1892 and changed hands between various utility companies before being sold to Joseph Thompson in 1917, who opened the first Dodge dealership outside of Detroit using the building. The building changed hands a few more times before it was purchased by Alex Longnecker and Carl Miller in 1933, who moved their Hudson dealership to the location.

In the same way that the REOTM’s collection is primarily filled with REO and Oldsmobile vehicles, the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum’s collection is centered around Hudson and Kaiser vehicles. The most notable example that can be found at the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum is the original Fabulous Hudson Hornet of NASCAR and Disney fame. While the Hudson Hornet is undoubtedly an amazing vehicle, it’s the collection of Hudson and Kaiser-Frazer vehicles that make this museum worth stopping by.

 

 

Stahls Auto Museum

Located in Chesterfield, MI, Stahls Automotive Foundation houses some amazing vehicles. Ted Stahl was born and raised just outside of Detroit and was always a collector of antique mechanical items. Following his success as an entrepreneur and business owner, Stahl and his family turned their passion for automotive design into quite the impressive collection of vehicles. Stopping by this museum ensures you’ll get the chance to see two vehicles I would argue every automotive enthusiast should see in their lifetime. These two vehicles, the 1948 Tucker Model 48 Sedan and 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car, never saw success as mass production vehicles, but the innovation both of these vehicles demonstrate is truly a sight to behold.

The Most Unique Types of Transmissions

 

It's a fact: manual transmission vehicles are becoming increasingly rare in America. Despite the impressive advancements in automatic transmissions like Porsche’s PDK system, many of us still cherish the tactile experience of shifting gears ourselves. Although most modern drivers favor automatic transmissions for their ease of use, there was a time when a variety of unique transmission setups were commonplace. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of these distinctive transmission systems and the reasons behind their development.

Hurst Lightning Rod Shifter

 

 

One of the most interesting transmission systems was the Hurst Lightning Rod shifter, introduced in the 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst/Olds special edition. Towards the end of the Malaise era, a time when American cars provided a less than engaging driving experience, Oldsmobile wanted to bring back the muscle car in an exciting manner. To market their new special edition Cutlass as a fun to drive muscle car, they worked with Hurst to create the Lightning Rods shifter.

This unique setup featured multiple gear levers, allowing drivers to manually shift between the gears of their automatic transmission. The Lightning Rods provided a more engaging driving experience by letting the driver control their own upshifts and downshifts. This system aimed to combine the excitement of manual transmissions with the convenience of an automatic, in an effort to bring back automotive enthusiasts in America. 

Technically, the Lightning Rods consist of three separate levers: one for standard automatic shifting and two additional rods for manual control over the first three gears. The first rod engages first gear, the second moves to second gear, and the third engages third gear. This allows for driver timed shifts during performance driving. This setup is very similar to the Lenco transmission which is discussed in further detail below but was actually installed in production vehicles whereas the Lenco wasn’t.

Volkswagen's Auto-Stick

 

Volkswagen also experimented with innovative transmission designs with the Auto-Stick, which combined automatic and manual transmission driving experiences. Found in classic Beetles, this system allowed drivers to manually select gears without a clutch pedal. The Auto-Stick was essentially an early attempt at creating a semi-automatic transmission, providing the ease of an automatic while still giving the driver a sense of control over gear selection.

The Auto-Stick transmission works by using a torque converter in place of a traditional clutch, allowing the driver to shift gears manually using a gear lever without needing to operate a clutch pedal. When the driver moves the gear lever, a micro switch engages a vacuum-operated clutch servo, which disengages the clutch. This allows the gear to change smoothly, and once the lever is released, the clutch re-engages automatically. This system provided a compromise between full manual control and the ease of an automatic, making it a popular choice for those who wanted the best of both worlds.

The Legendary Lenco Transmission

 

The Lenco transmission, while never installed in a production vehicle, earned fame in the drag racing world. Its unique operation, allowing for rapid and reliable gear changes, made it a favorite among drag racers and contributed to its legendary status. The Lenco transmission is known for its robustness and the ability to handle extreme horsepower, which is why it became a staple in drag racing.

The Lenco works by using a series of planetary gear sets and clutch packs, each controlled by an individual lever. When a lever is engaged, it activates a clutch pack that locks a planetary gear set into place, changing the gear ratio. This allows for almost instantaneous gear changes, as the driver can pre-select the next gear and engage it by simply pulling a lever. This setup is highly durable and capable of handling the immense power generated by high-performance drag racing engines, making it a preferred choice for professional drag racers.

Mitsubishi's Super Shift Transmission

 

Mitsubishi's Super Shift transmission was another unusual design, functioning similarly to a big rig’s gearbox with high and low ratios available for each gear. This system featured a secondary gear lever, providing a range of gear ratios that could be selected manually. The Super Shift added a layer of complexity and control to the driving experience, allowing drivers to fine-tune their gear selection for optimal performance. This transmission was particularly innovative for its time, offering a unique solution for drivers who wanted more control over their vehicle's performance.

The Super Shift transmission worked by offering a dual-range setup, essentially providing eight forward gears instead of the traditional four. The primary gear lever operated as a standard four-speed manual transmission, while the secondary lever allowed the driver to select between "power" and "economy" ranges. In "power" mode, the transmission offered closer gear ratios for better performance, while "economy" mode provided wider gear ratios for improved fuel efficiency. This dual-range system allowed drivers to optimize their driving experience based on their needs, whether for performance or fuel economy.

 

 

These diverse transmission systems reflect the automotive industry’s continuous innovation and the enduring appeal of manual gear shifting. While the prevalence of manual transmissions may be dwindling, the legacy of these unique systems lives on, cherished by enthusiasts, like us here at GR Auto Gallery, who appreciate the art of driving. For example, the development of Porsche’s PDK system represents a significant advancement in automatic transmission technology. National Drive Your Corvette To Work Day is held on the closest Friday to June 30th every year. For 2024, National Drive Your Corvette To Work Day is on the 28th of June. But why is this annual celebration centered around the 30th of June? It is becasue June 30th is the official birthday of the Corvette as the first Corvette rolled off the Flint, Michigan assembly line on June 30, 1953. 

 

This annual event began in 2001 when the Founder of Mid America Motorworks, Mike Yager, recognized that many owners consider their Corvette to be a special car to only be driven occasionally. Yager wanted to change this by setting aside one day in which to encourage owners to get their Corvette out on the road to demonstrate how popular the model is. 

 

 

The event not only celebrates the Corvette's birthday but also fosters camaraderie among Corvette owners. It's a unique opportunity for Corvette enthusiasts to meet, share stories, and showcase their beloved vehicles, whether they're classic models or the latest editions​. Even if you're retired, you're encouraged to join the celebration! Honda Civic Type R vs. Acura Integra Type S: Which one should you choose?

 

 

Today, while working on some driving videos for clients, I noticed a sleek vehicle rolling into our parking lot. From a distance, it looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite make out what it was. As I walked closer, I realized it was the sister car to the 2024 Acura Integra Type S we added to our inventory a week or two ago—the 2023 Honda Civic Type R. One of the perks of my job is the opportunity to get up close and personal with a variety of vehicles daily. Inspired by last week's blog post where I compared two family haulers from 1998, the Chevrolet Blazer and the Ford Explorer, I seized this chance to compare and contrast two of the newest and hottest cars on the market: the Honda Civic Type R and the Acura Integra Type S.

 

 

Exterior Styling

Starting with the exterior, the two vehicles may appear very different at first glance, but they actually have only minor differences. The Honda opts for a more traditional rear hatch setup, with the license plate mounted on the hatch, whereas the Integra takes a different approach by raising the top lip of the rear bumper and placing the license plate below the hatch’s opening. The Civic features a more aggressive stance, with a wider track and unique honeycomb grille pattern that complements its sporty demeanor. In contrast, the Integra has a more refined aesthetic, featuring angular lines, distinct fender flares, and a deeper contour on the lower side profile.

While the Civic maintains its aggressive appearance without the same angular design cues, it makes a bold statement with its massive carbon fiber rear wing, which stands out from nearly any other production vehicle on the road, perhaps except for a ZR1. Acura’s design choices for the rear taillights are particularly appealing to me, opting for a sleeker look compared to the Honda's more bulbous design. Additionally, the Civic Type R’s rear diffuser is not just for show; it contributes to real aerodynamic downforce, enhancing its performance.

 

 

Interior Styling

Moving on to the interior, the similarities between the two vehicles are striking, yet they also display key distinctions. Both Honda and Acura used similar vent designs, but altered the vent patterns to differentiate their brands. The vent designs in both the Integra and the Civic remind me of the early 2000s Saabs in both form and function. The Civic’s interior leans more towards a performance-oriented ethos, featuring red accents and suede-like upholstery that enhances grip during spirited drives. In contrast, the Integra combines sporty elements with a more refined, luxury feel.

Overall, the interiors of both vehicles are exceptionally comfortable and come equipped with modern features like CarPlay, automatic climate control, steering wheel audio controls, automatic power windows, various drive modes, a digital gauge cluster, and more. Yet, their digital gauge clusters highlight a difference in design philosophy. Acura replicates traditional analog circular gauges, while Honda adopts a more contemporary approach with a linear tachometer layout and a numerical speed readout. 

Another notable difference lies in the seats. The Civic’s seats have significantly more bolstering, providing excellent support for spirited driving through corners without feeling too tight during daily drives or making entry and exit cumbersome. The Integra’s seats, while also comfortable, prioritize a balance of support and comfort for more refined ride, aided by additional sound deadening that reduces road and drivetrain noise. For a touch of luxury and improved grip, Acura adds an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, enhancing the driving experience in a subtle yet impactful way.

An instance of where the two vehicles distinguish themselves is in their audio systems. The Integra features a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D premium audio system, delivering a richer, more immersive sound experience that is ideal for those seeking top-tier audio quality on the go. In comparison, the Civic is equipped with a 12-speaker Bose system, which, while still fantastic—especially compared to the blown-out speakers in my 2002 Lexus LX470—doesn't quite match the Acura's audio prowess.

 

 

Driving Characteristics

Both vehicles feature six-speed manual gearboxes, each controlled via a leather-wrapped shift knob, offering an exceptional driving experience. These gearboxes feel incredible, with clearly defined gates that make each shift precise and satisfying. Both also feature automatic rev-matching during downshifts, allowing you to feel like a professional driver even during routine maneuvers like turning into a parking lot. 

In terms of performance, the horsepower figures are nearly identical, making them formidable contenders in the front-wheel-drive segment. The Integra Type S produces 320 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, while the Civic Type R delivers 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque when running on 93 octane fuel. These power figures are not just for show—the Type S leverages its slightly higher horsepower for a more linear power delivery, offering a refined yet exhilarating acceleration experience. Meanwhile, the Civic Type R uses its power for a raw, spirited performance that’s immediately responsive and engaging, reflecting its more aggressive tuning. 

Both cars utilize Honda’s celebrated K20C1 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, renowned for its high-revving nature and strong power output. This engine is a marvel of modern engineering, providing substantial torque across a broad RPM range, enhancing drivability whether you're cruising on the highway or carving up a back road. The dual-axis front suspension setup, inherited from the Type R, reduces torque steer effectively, allowing both the Integra and Civic to maintain composure and deliver power smoothly to the ground. The Adaptive Damper System in both cars adjusts the suspension stiffness in real-time based on driving conditions, providing a versatile balance between comfort and performance. This system, combined with the precise gearboxes, ensures that both vehicles not only excel on the track but also provide a dynamic and engaging drive in everyday scenarios.

Overall, I’m partial to the Acura due to its larger emphasis on a refined daily driving experience. That being said, I would gladly take the keys to either as I thoroughly enjoyed being able to explore both models.
